LaCasa’s Housing Development program takes on many different types of projects. Following is a brief description of what we are currently working on.
On December 14, 2007 LaCasa became the new owner of “Roosevelt Center”, the former Roosevelt Elementary School located at 215 E. Indiana in Elkhart. For the past two years, the Historic Roosevelt Center Association and Elkhart Housing Partnership have fought to preserve the school, originally constructed in 1923 and the focal point of the surrounding neighborhood.
LaCasa’s Board of Director’s, understanding the value of the project to provide quality affordable housing and stability and new services to the surrounding neighborhood, committed LaCasa to assuming the role of general partner, owner and developer of Roosevelt Center. At the same time, LaCasa Board and staff are very appreciative of the confidence in LaCasa’s ability to manage this project extended by neighborhood and city leadership as well as financial and other partners. Once completed, LaCasa is also committed to managing this property long term for the benefit of residents and the neighborhood.
Construction hard costs are projected at $4.2 million with project completion anticipated by Nov 30, 2008. A mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments are available, affordable for persons at a range of incomes. Interested persons may contact LaCasa’s leasing office at 537-1896.

This 3 bedroom two bath home is close to the high school. It is undergoing a total gut-rehab, with new everything. This will be a beautiful home when it is finished! Call LaCasa’s Home Ownership Center for more information, 574-533-4450.
