Help-A-Housesm
Help-A-Housesm is a unique effort that connects volunteers and donations with projects in Goshen that support safe, attractive and affordable housing.
Volunteers repair the homes of low- to moderate-income homeowners and assist LaCasa in maintaining its affordable rental properties. This program makes a significant impact toward improving older city neighborhoods in Goshen.
We are now able to help unincorporated areas of Elkhart County. Call for an application if you live in Middlebury or other areas, not Elkhart City or Goshen City. 574-533-4450.

We need your donation!

Kuko Rezendiz and Lucia Cardenas from Frontline Ministries worked on a roof replacement on May 10, 2008. They were guided by Jerrol Shaum, the professional volunteer on this job.
LaCasa's goal is to attract $1,000,000 each year in State and Federal grants to support safe, attractive and affordable housing in the Goshen Community. These grants require a local match of 25% to demonstrate community support. Call

Volunteers help all year long!

Volunteers from Concord High School built a rain garden on Help-A-House Day 2011.
Help-a-House brought out 360 volunteers age 14 and over, plus some younger family members who worked at our “non-construction” sites. Many of the volunteers worked long hours on a day that was cold, wet and blustery: we totaled 2474.25 hours for that day. We worked at 20 sites, spread across the city from a house on College Avenue all the way to Cheryl St. off Greene Road. The Exchange Club offered their pancake breakfast again, and St. Mark’s UMC let us use their church, even though there was a funeral dinner planned for noon that day. Many local merchants were generous, and we added two new ones to our list: Jimmy John’s and South Side Soda Shop. We also added some new groups to our volunteer core (or corps!): Merit Learning Center’s principal and 7 teachers came to work with us, and a group from Elkhart’s First Congregational United Church of Christ came for the first time. In all, 85 windows were replaced, 8 roofs were replaced, 8 porches were replaced, and 2 houses were painted.
Consider joining LaCasa for a day. Help-A-Housesm 2011 can be any day that works for your group. Call or email Kate for more information on volunteering.
